Dr. Eric V. Schonhard

About

My passion for a career in chiropractic started in Jr. High School.  Jackson chiropractor Dr. Ralph Hartman adjusted me and the results were fantastic.

When I was in the 7th grade at the Jackson Catholic Middle School, I developed a very intense neck pain that greatly limited my normal range of motion.  The intense pain and restriction lasted for over a week.  My father was a patient of Dr. Ralph's and he took me to his chiropractic clinic.  He evaluated my condition and then he adjusted me.  The next day I was completely back to normal.  A chiropractor, with the use of only his hands, adjusted me and I had almost instant relief.  This experience planted the chiropractic seed.  Chiropractic first, drugs second, and surgery last.

Education

Dr. Eric was born and raised in Jackson, MI.  He attended Queen's Elementary, Jackson Catholic Middle School, and graduated from Lumen Christi High School in 1986.  He attended Jackson Community College and transferred to Palmer College of Chiropractic where he graduated in 1992.  He has been recognized and certified by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners as being proficient in all levels of chiropractic.  He is a member of the Michigan Association of Chiropractors

Techniques

  • Diversified Technique - This technique is the most commonly used of all chiropractic techniques and is the one probably most familiar to patients.  The diversified chiropractic adjustment entails a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust that can result in a cavitation of a joint (i.e. a quick, shallow thrust that causes the "popping" noise associated with a chiropractic adjustment).  As the name implies, the diversified technique can be used to treat many of the joints in the body.
  • Thompson Technique - This technique was developed by chiropractor Dr. J. Clay Thompson and combines precise chiropractic adjustments with high levels of patient comfort.  The table is often referred to as a "drop table."  Different sections of the table gently give way reducing the force needed to adjust the spine.  Chiropractors around the world use this technique because of its precision and patient results.
  • Cox Flexion/Distraction Technique - If you are suffering from low back and or leg pain and do not want to pursue surgery, the Cox Flexion/Distraction technique offers a great chiropractic option.  It is considered a safe, effective alternative to back surgery and helps restore range of motion to the joints in the low back, bringing the spine into alignment.  Treatment is performed on a special chiropractic table that flexes and bends various muscles and joints.  It is commonly used to restore herniated discs, facet joint range of motion, and improve posture.
